Podcast: How Partnering With Your Child’s Caregiver Supports Healthy Development.

This podcast discusses some questions and concerns that many families might experience when their child enters a child care center and it gives great tips on how teachers and parents can build partnerships.

"The whole family is affected when the child goes into care; that they’re there to support the whole family that they’re not competing. Something that a lot of parents suffer from is this idea that the childcare provider, or the people at the center are gonna somehow replace them, and that that should not be something that in any way is communicated that you’re not welcome" (Zero to Three, 2017).

Standing with Immigrant Women and Children

ZERO TO THREE has joined with a group of women from across the country this week to investigate human rights abuses against immigrant women and children in Alabama, in the wake of recent anti-immigrant legislation.

Policies that foster a strong foundation for healthy development in the first three years of life for immigrant children and their families —including access to health care; adequate food; safe, decent and affordable housing; and positive early learning opportunities—can play a key role in preparing these young children to become caring, contributing adults in the future (Zero to Three, 2017).

  3. Reyna,
Great resources and information you shared this week. Providing a bond with parents and families is a key element in early childcare programs across the world. As a parent I would want to establish a bond with my child's teacher to feel at ease or comfortable. These partnerships are essential and are to be maintained. Great post!

  4. Hi Reyna,

I enjoyed reading your blog post, very interesting, I read that As secretary of state, Hillary made human rights—including women’s rights—a cornerstone of her foreign policy. She worked to bring down barriers that stop women and girls from reaching their potential—standing up against sex trafficking; helping women gain access to markets, credit, and training; and leading the fight for a U.N. Security Council resolution to combat sexual violence against women and children in conflict zones. Also I read that A mere 13 percent of U.S. workers have access to paid family leave through their employers and fewer than 40 percent have employer-provided, short-term disability insurance.2Yet at some point, nearly all workers need time away from their jobs to deal with a serious personal or family illness or to care for a new child. We urge Congress and the administration to:`Support the Family And Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act, which would create a national paid leave insurance program to allow workers to earn a portion of their pay while they take a limited amount of time away from work to care for a newborn, newly adopted child or newly placed foster child; care for a family member with a serious health condition; address their own serious health condition; or manage certain military caregiving responsibilities. `Support federal grants to assist in the establishment and maintenance of state paid family and medical leave insurance programs. `Support the Federal Employees Paid Parental Leave Act, which would allow federal employees who are eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act to receive pay for up to six weeks of that time for the birth or adoption of a child.

    1. Thank you Sherman and thank you for sharing the information as well. I think that our society in general benefits when the mom or both parents are able to stay home with their newborns.

  5. Reyna,
I love the quote that you put on here. We see this all the time when children come to daycare. It is hard for them to let go of their children or they can be off putting to us workers because we aren't them and can't help them as well. I hope that they don't think they need to compete with us workers. I listen to the children talk about their parents and they love them and when they come through the door the light up and get excited. I just want to help their children grow and develop, while their parents are doing what they need to do for their family.

    1. Yes indeedo and that is why it is very important to build those relationships with the parents and families so they can feel that they are still thein child's primary teacher.
