Professional Hopes and Goals
One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse background
I do work with children and families from diverse backgrounds and the hope that I have is for me to be able to make them feel comfortable, welcomed, and part of our community. I want them to feel that they belong and that they can share their ideas, customs, and any information that is important to them.
One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice
The goal that I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is for all early educators to be required to take courses on issues of diversity, equity, and social justice early on so they can learn the important information. The sooner we learn, the better it is for everyone.
A brief note of thanks to your colleagues
I would like to take this time to thank all of you for the positive comments and the support that you have provided me with. I have enjoyed reading your blogs and discussions and I have learned so much from your point of view and from your ideas. Thank you so much and I wish everyone much success in your future courses.

Hi Reyna
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed you very much. Your passion for teaching screams through your written language . I am honored to have you as one of my fellow colleagues and peer. I feel as though I know you and believe in your burning desire to change the world. I wish you much success in your journey for knowledge. Now let's talk about this last post it spoke to my heart. The dynamic way that you place quotes that spoke volumes about diversity. The essence of this course was for us to see how different is important to our world. The education arena of the world must be required to learn about diversity but understand it must mot be a chore but a desire for knowledge. Great post and much love creates social change.
Thank you very much for your kind words. I have also learned so much from you. I believe that knowledge is power and I have gained knowledge from all of you and also from the children and families that I have had the pleasure to work with. I agree with you about the essence of this course. What a boring world it would be if we were all the same. The things that I have learned, I have learned from others. We have delicious food, wonderful music, art, and so much more because of other cultures. Our differences is what makes our world beautiful.

Hi Reyna,
ReplyDeleteI agree that this course should be a requirement for all early childhood educators. What a gift to learn this new material! Thank you for another great course together. We'll have to meet one day, we have so much in common it's scary :)
Best wishes in your future courses.
Hi Sandra,
DeleteThank you for your positive feedback. I have also enjoyed another course with you. Hopefully we are in the same group again. It is always nice to see a familiar face. I agree that we do have many things in common and we think somewhat the same. It would be nice to one day meet. I wish you much success.

Reyna,
ReplyDeleteGreat post as always. I have learned much from your insights, interpretations, and view points have taught me a lot. I hope to be able to continue in courses with you in order to keep growing and learning.
I do wonder how you plan to help make your families feel welcomed in the community. With many prejudice views around the families you help out, I would like to hear some suggestions.
Thank you,
Amanda
Reyna, Together we can to great things. Thanks for you ideas and insights from our class in the last 8 weeks. As we continue down our own journey we all have a connection as we continue to make a difference in the lives of young children.

I really like your idea about educating aspiring teachers about diversity, equity, and social justice earlier. Until I started this master's program, I did not have any classes that focused on these issues. It is so important that all educators be exposed to this, and the earlier, the better.
ReplyDeleteHello Reyna, great post! Having hopes and goals that "professionals, families and adults could accept and understand differences while promoting cultural awareness it is the way. We need more open-minded people to be willing to go the extra miles in helping to make differences. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteReyna,
ReplyDeleteI too feel it important for all early education professionals to receive in-depth training on diversity, equity and social justice. Without out the knowledge base, we cannot expect change. Thank you for always being so explicit with your responses and for providing thought provoking and supportive feedback. Looking forward to continuing this journey with you.

Reyna,
ReplyDeleteyou and I chose identical goals for our classrooms and the field! Professional development is very important and I described wanting every early childhood professional to take courses in anti-bias education. Thank you also for your professional support over these past eight weeks, I am looking forward to future classes with you and to earning our degrees together as we have known each other for several months now.
Reyna,
ReplyDeleteI like how you thought that all early educators should have to take a course on diversity and social justice. I agree with you whole heartedly. I think the sooner we educate educators the better they will be at educating the children. I know I have learned a lot from this class and that it is valuable knowledge.
